How to Develop an Orchard with POP

Community-based groups typically contact POP to express interest and initiate an orchard planting. Prospective partners complete an application for an orchard. Before the spring and fall planting seasons, POP’s Orchard Director and volunteer members of the Orchard Committee visit and evaluate each potential planting site, assessing: site control, organizational capacity, safety and suitability of the site itself, and plans for using or distributing the harvest. Planting partners and sites are discussed and chosen at a subsequent orchard selection meeting (each late summer and winter).

Interested groups should download the POP Community Partner Application, answer the questions on the form, and then contact Orchard Director Phil Forsyth at phil@phillyorchards.org or 215-724-1247. (For general outreach questions, email outreach@phillyorchards.org)
