Join us for the first session of our 2019 POPCORE urban orchardist training course. This workshop will provide a look at ecological orchard care through the seasons and focus on winter pruning of fruit trees, berry bushes, and fruiting vines. Morning classroom session will be followed by hands-on pruning at the neighboring Woodford & Strawberry Mansion Orchards.

Join us for the first session of POP's Community Orchard Resilience Education (POP CORE) course!  This session is hosted by the East Park Revitalization Alliance and Fair Amount Food Forest.  

Class One: Pruning and Eco-Orchard Seasons - with Phil Forsyth and POP staff

In-class Portion (10am-12pm) @ Mander Rec Center:

  • Annual orchard care timeline

  • Fruit tree pruning

  • Berry & bramble pruning

  • Fruiting vine pruning

Brown-bag lunch

Hands-on pruning (12:30-3:00pm) @ Woodford & Strawberry Mansion Orchards

POPCORE combines many elements of orchard stewardship, ecosystem design, and food uses that POP has learned over the past ten years.  This four part series is intended to grow the knowledge, skillset, and self-reliance of our community orchard partners and volunteers, resulting in happier, healthier, and more productive community orchards.  

Those completing all four classes over any two year period will receive POPCORE Urban Orchardist Certification!
