Fallopia japonica (common name Japanese knotweed) is considered by many all over Europe and North America to be a very serious nonnative nuisance plant. Once established in a landscape, it is extremely difficult to remove. BUT!

    - Knotweed root is a very important and potentially high value cash crop for alternative and herbal medicine.

    - Knotweed shoots harvested in early spring are a wild harvested alternative to cultivated rhubarb and asparagus.

Join Edenspore's Robyn Mello and the Philadelphia Orchard Project for a late afternoon knotweed harvest at the Awbury Arboretum agricultural village! She'll teach you everything she knows about the plant and lead food and medicine-making demonstrations with participants.

We will meet at the Ed Center inside of the Awbury Agricultural Village. Enter on Ardleigh St and travel down the gravel road past the community garden to find it. If you are late, continue down the gravel road to find us harvesting beside the Awbury Food Forest. We will return to the Ed Center after harvesting.
