Biochar is a charcoal-like soil enhancer made by burning organic material. Compost Tea is a living liquid soil enhancer made by 'brewing' compost. In this workshop we'll be going over the history, usage, properties and how they improve the life of the soil. We'll have live demonstrations of making biochar and brewing compost tea and talk about their application in gardens and orchards.
We'll also be demonstrating some other fall eco-orchard tasks, including introducing beneficial nematodes for pest control and planting a few new trees in the orchard!
This workshop is part of a series offered by the Southwest &West Agriculture Network (SWWAG). Priority for workshop enrollment is given to neighbors living in West & Southwest Philadelphia, but all are welcome! Registration is limited to 10-15. Light refreshments will be served. Children and youth are welcome, but childcare is not provided. Pre-registration is required.
