For the past 15 years, the Philadelphia Orchard Project has worked with partners to plan, plant, and care for community orchards around the city. Over that time, the orchards we’ve planted in collaboration with community partners have been described as: “a place where curiosity grows, is nurtured and celebrated;” “a living classroom that changes with the seasons;” “a venue for community building, environmental education, networking, and fun;” and “a safe haven where children can be free to learn.” And of course, each orchard provides an abundance of fruit and herbs, providing nourishment for the surrounding neighborhood.
Today, we ask you to help us lay the groundwork for the next 15 years of growth, discovery, and learning by making a gift to POP’s annual campaign. Your generous contribution will help POP meet our year-end fundraising goal of $35,000 and support our vital year-round collaborative work.
In the next year, POP will rise to the moment to meet these goals:
- Increase our hands-on support of community partners in the areas of the city most impacted by climate and health injustice;
- Expand our Lead Orchard Volunteer program through sustained on-the-ground outreach;
- Create educational opportunities through video and Spanish-language resources; and,
- Increase the propagation of climate-adapted plants from our edible plant nursery.
Your donation is a vote of confidence in our mission to plant and support Philadelphia’s community orchards. It sends a message that together, we can continue to grow and create a greener and more fruitful city that will thrive for generations to come. On behalf of POP’s board, staff, and 67 community partners, thank you!
