POPCORE 4: Permaculture and Philadelphia’s Food System

Registration is closed for this event
Join us for an introduction to permaculture--a method of designing and living using ecology as guide--and its relation to the world of urban agriculture in Philadelphia.

This class is part of the 4-part Community Orchard Resilience Education (POPCORE) course designed and implemented this year. The classes can be taken in any order.

This class, held in the Awbury Agricultural Village Education Building, is an introduction to Permaculture Principles and Ethics, which guide much of the decisionmaking that POP staff use when designing, maintaining, and teaching about our urban orchards. There will be big picture concepts intertwined with on-the-ground examples to give attendees multiple ways to move forward in their own design, gardening, orcharding, and lifestyle choices.

We will also have a discussion about improving Philadelphia's gardens and food system as a permaculture network in the future, and ways that it already functions as such.

There is a holiday-themed gathering and wassailing event at Awbury Arboretum following this class if you would like to stick around afterwards for a Food Forest tour and a full evening of fun!

A map of the Awbury Agricultural Village can be found here to make it easier to find the educational building: http://awbury.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/EdCenterDirections-Map.pdf
